GASP Art Show at KOTAKOTAK 2009

G.A.S.P. - Group of Artists Saying Peace is a group show by Ikip-UiTM Art & Design lecturers with the collaboration of a local contemporary art gallery, ‘Kotakotak’. 10 lecturers, a technician, a security officer and a guest artist from Kotakotak will be taking part in this show. The main purpose of this show is to educate the locals mainly and students generally on the world of visual art. This show is also seen as an eye-opener to the visual art scene specifically in Kuantan, Malaysia with hope that it could inspire the spirit of exhibiting amongst the local artists.

Kotak + Otak (notion) but rather pronounce such to KOTAKOTAK, which resonates the idea of having multiple boxes, is a private body which has the urge and addiction for arts + architecture & an-esthetics in design (a.i.d.). Propagate by interdisciplinary enthusiasts from architects to artisans, kotakotak provides a platform for budding young and old contemporary artist , in finding their voices and sharing their ideas with professionals, academicians, students and the general public. It provides an informal discourse in deciding strategies in promoting local (kuantanese) contemporary arts & crafts to the ever subdued reality tv politically occupied & project inclined mass.

PISANG – Para Insan Seni Pahang is a non-profit program organized by Muzium Pahang, Malaysia. The program aims to support emerging and talented local contemporary artists, a platform for young artists in finding their voices as well as the veterans in rediscovering new ways of expressing themselves. We hope to host a variety of events, including exhibitions, film screenings, workshops, theatre, music, dancing classes, talks, launches, etc, in hope of bringing together folks from all walks of life in Malaysia and abroad to share Kuantan’s vibrant arts & culture. As a start, PISANG would like to thank GASP and KOTAKOTAK for their collaboration in organizing such a lively and vibrant art show.
